John Louis Scott Sr

It is with great sadness that the family of John L. Scott, Sr. announces his passing at his residence in New Orleans on the ninth day of August in the year of our Lord 2018 after a brief illness. Age 87 years. Born on the twenty third day of April, 1931 in Franklin County, Mississippi to parents, Quitman Scott and Laura James Scott, both who has preceded him in death. John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean conflict receiving an honorable discharge after serving two years in Korea. He ranked as corporal. John was married in 1953 to Ernestine Walker Scott and made New Orleans his home. She also precedes him in death. Left to cherish his most precious memories are his children; Don Scott (Paula), Janice Scott, John Scott, Jr. (Charlotte), Tranell Perrault (Greg Sr.), Maggie R. Magruder and George Caesh; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He loved his title of “Grand Pa”. He was also known as Dump, Scotty Boy and Uncle Scott and “Big John”. He worked as a Longshoreman and retired in 1986 after well over 30 years of service. John is also survived by five sisters; Mary Mayberry, Jennie V. Malone, Laurie Watts, Doretha Vanison, Arie Elizabeth Green and one brother Everette Scott and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Preceding him in death are two sisters, two brothers, five siblings who died at birth, his beloved mother in law Ozie Magee Walker and several brothers in law and sisters in law. All who knew “Big John” was the better for it. He had a strong smile to match his sharp wit. Daddy we will always remember and love you. Rest Now! Job Well Done! A visitation in his honor will be held on Saturday August 18, 2018 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church 6828 Chef Menteur Hwy. New Orleans, LA. 70126 at 8:00 AM.
