John Elton Breaux Jr.

Rev. John E. Breaux, Jr. On November 8, 1951, John Elton Breaux Jr. arrived. He was born to John Elton Breaux, Sr. and Marie Cecile Breaux in New Orleans, LA. They were very happy for a boy, after the birth of two girls. As a child, John was always laughing, appreciative, curious and blessed. John had a very friendly personality. He made lifetime friendships from the children in the neighborhood and schools that he attended. McDonough #6 Elementary school was the first school John attended. Then Samuel James Green Jr. High and Xavier Prep High school. John also played clarinet, where he took private lessons under the tutelage of Mr. Lionel Harris. He was in the band at Green and at Prep. And while at Prep, a musical group called the Rhythm Beat Melody was formed and John was a part of it. They had become well known, performing in talent shows. His time at Prep was cut short, as it became an all girls school. Of course John joined the band at Walter L. Cohen, where he graduated from. He was already acquainted with a lot of their students and fit right in. It was at Green that John met Joycelyn. Joycelyn was an example of opposites attract. She was quiet but observant and had a mature personality. John liked Joy, as she was called, right away! Little did he know that Joy would become his wife. They were married on September 14, 1974. Their love was endless. John joined the Navy in 1971 and was discharged after 6 years of service. John also had a love for the Mardi Gras Indian culture. He loved it to no end! He finally did join the Black Eagles Indian tribe, out of the Calliope project. He absolutely loved it! And he would ALWAYS mention to you how pretty he was! It was near the end of his discharge that John became seriously committed to his religion and studying the Bible. It was at that time that he made some very serious and personal decisions in his life. He attended and graduated from Union Baptist Bible and Theological Seminary on May 13, 2009. He joined Second Zion Baptist Church #1, where he was ordained and became a minister, on March 18, 2011. After serving several years at Second Zion, John became an associate minister at St. Mark's Fourth Baptist Church. John ministered to anyone who would listen to him, those in church, prisons, teenagers, or those who were lost and needed help. John recovered from a serious stroke. However it changed his life. He always tried to overcome all of his obstacles. But it was not to be. Yet John continued to enjoy the company around him. He also never lost his talent for making those around him laugh! His love of life and his love of God never wavered. John tried to live by Jesus's teachings. He did not judge others, he comforted those who mourned, he showed patience with others, and he helped others to take the right path. He forgave others, he practiced tolerance, and helped others to make peace. As a minister, John lived the meaning and ways that the Lord taught him to receive Complete Happiness. On Saturday, February 3, 2024, John gained his Ultimate Freedom! FREE AT LAST!!! Rev. John Breaux is survived by his loving wife, Joycelyn Marie Wilson Breaux, (sisters) Jean B. Pittman (Sherman), Sharon B. Barbarin (Lemuel), Dianne B. Tyler, Lynn A. Breaux, Marcia B. Collins (Andrew), Brigette Breaux, (brothers) Gerard Breaux (Vivian), Kevin Breaux (Deborah), Dail Breaux, (sister-in-law) Sandra Muhammad, (brother-in-law) William W.Wilson III ( Paulette) He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr.& Mrs. John E. Breaux, Sr., his brother Byron Breaux, his nephew Gage A. Louis, his in-laws, Mr. & Mrs. William W. Wilson Jr. John is survived by a host of relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held this Friday, February 16, 2024. The visitation is from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The services will be held at St. Mark's Fourth Baptist Church, 2130 Perdido Street, New Orleans, LA 70112. Interment will be at Restlawn Cemetery.
