Joan Marie Marcelin Colin

Joan Marie Marcelin Colin, affectionally known as Joanie was called home on Sunday, August 6, 2023. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Ernest Peter Marcelin, Sr. and Geneva Lee Marcelin as their youngest daughter. She was first wed to Mr. Keith Joseph Duplessis. This union gave birth to her two beautiful daughters: Melina and LeToya. Joan was then joined in marrige to Tyrone Colin Sr. in the summer of 1982. Through their union, they established a family of 4 sons; Corey, Kevin, (from previous relationships) Tyrone II and Justin. Joan was a devout Catholic, and a faithful member of Resurrection of Our Lord Church. There, she worked as the Executive Administrative Assistant for the church. Joanie was a life-long resident of New Orleans, growing up in the 7th ward and a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy High School class of 1969. From there, she attended Delgado Community College where she obtained her associates degree. She then furthered her education, attending Southern University of New Orleans, graduating with a bachelor’s degree. Joanie then went on to pursue her master’s degree from the University of New Orleans. Joan worked as an educator in both the private and public school sector of Orleans and Jefferson Parishes for 20+ years before retiring. During her career, she worked at institutions such as St Augustine, Fortier and even her Alma Mater, St Mary's. She has taught and touched the lives of hundreds of students, and even worked in the field of special education. After retiring from serving the students of New Orleans, she began to work servicing her church and its parishioners until her last day. Joan was a devoted and beloved mother, daughter, sister, wife, grandmother, god-mother, aunt, cousin, and friend. Joanie loved her family deep, especially her children, and each child in a special way. She was loved by many who know her for her sly, humorous, quirky responses and her infectious laughter, usually to her own jokes. She mostly spoke at a whisper but always got her point across. When you got the privilege to know Joanie and her one-of-a-kind personality, she left an influence that will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ernest Peter (Moss) Marcelin, and sister Virgie Lee Hausey. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by the survived: her husband, Tyrone Michael Colin Sr., her children Melina Duplessis (Lawrence), Corey Parker (Meg), LeToya Duplessis, Kevin Colin, Tyrone Colin II (Monique), Justin Colin (Therese), grandchildren Trayein Duplessis, Darrell Augustine, Jr., Jordan Colin, Makenzy Colin, Colin Parker, Dylan Colin, Melia Seymour, Tye Colin, Cassidy Parker, Aiden Colin; a host of family, friends and her beloved dog Blu. Relatives and friends of the family, also priest and parishioners of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church 4861 Rosalia Drive, New Orleans, LA 70127 on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Interment: St. Louis #3 Cemetery, 3421 Esplanade Ave New Orleans LA 70119.
