Jamesetta Ann Saunders

GOD called home an amazing woman named Jamesetta Ann Saunders departing this life on Sunday, May 25, 2019. Born on March 11, 1949 to the late George and Carrie J. Saunders in New Orleans, LA. She was named after her maternal grandparents, the late Amanda and James Johnson., Sr. Later was baptized at the Pleasant Zion Missionary B. C. by the late Dr. George McWaters. She briefly participated in the Sanctuary Choir and the Woman’s Missionary Union. Her secular training began at Bush Elementary Private School, Alfred C. Priestley Jr. High and McDonough 35 Senior High. Here, she became a member of the Office Club, the Newspaper Club and was voted as the Best Dressed Senior Superlative upon graduating in 1966 as a “Ron Eagle.” Moving on to Xavier University she earned degrees in secondary Education with her M.A. plus 30. Upon graduation she embarked on what became her calling as a Social Studies Teacher at Rabouin Senior High nearly 33 years. She served as the Senior/Prom Sponsor, Social Studies Coordinator and Chaperon for students to see how government works in the Close-Up program in Washington, D.C and was nominated the “2004 Teacher of the Year.” She was also known for her generosity in helping her students. Her hobbies included reading, playing the piano, puzzles and most of all crocheting. Jamesetta was a true Music enthusiast with a vast collection of Jazz albums and a wardrobe of designer fashions. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor. She was instrumental in helping to set up the first library at O. Perry Walker High School. She tremendously enjoyed commuting to Slidell to see her cousins Donald, Kelly and Jesse Jackson. Preceding her in death are (aunt) Lavenia J. Martin, (uncles) August and James Johnson, Jr. Cherishing her memories in growing up together is her cousin, Gail Martin Dennis. Her demise, leaves a void with her devoted best friends: Gertrude Romero, Gilbert Mason, a doting God-child Bianca Romero, Ethan Forstall, Elle McKinney, Yvonne Sterling, Katherine Cutis, Lois Ford and Ella Butler. “A friend reaches for your and but touches your Heart” by Kathleen Graves Relatives and friends of the family are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at D.W.
