James Ackerson Jr.

James “Brother” Ackerson, Jr. entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the age of 67 at his home at 2:00 am. James Ackerson, Jr. was born in New Orleans, LA on February 3, 1950. He Graduated from George Washington Carver Sr. High School on August 30, 1978 and then enlisted in the United States Army. He was an army spec 4, 173d Airborne Brigade, APO 96250 Vietnam War, parachute jumper and received the Bronze and Air medal after being honorably discharged. He then returned home and later became a Master Carpenter and received an Associate Degree in engineering while attending Delgado Community College. He was employed at Charity Hospital of New Orleans and later retired after Hurricane Katrina as an engineer. James, Jr. is survived by his mother, Lucertia Hibbler Ackerson, his children, James III, Nichole, Consuella Ackerson and Tarina Smith, his sisters, Antionette Ackerson, Betty Clavo, Janice Ackerson Crawford, (15) grandchildren, (9) great grandchildren, godchild, Twinette Ackerson Johnson, devoted Cousin, Arthur Williams Jr., (5) nieces, (2) nephews, a host of devoted great nieces, great nephews,aunts, uncle , other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, James Ackerson, Sr., wife, Shirley Thomas Ackerson, daughter, Tonia Nadine Ackerson and sister, Alma Ackerson. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers and members of Greater Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church and Word of Truth Fellowship Church, also employees of Delgado Community College, Alorica Work at Home LLC., Ack & Son Towing Service, Davita Garden District Dialysis, Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, Greater New Orleans Foster Parent Association, State of Louisiana Department Of Children & Family Services, Tulane Medical Center of New Orleans and VA Medical Center of New Orleans are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Greater Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 5130 Chartres St., New Orleans, LA 70117 at 9:00 am.
