Henry Louis Lee

Henry Louis Lee departed this life on the morning of Saturday, July 17, 2021 at his Marrero home surrounded by his family. Henry, affectionately known as “Paw-Paw Joe '' was born to the late Booker T. Lee and Arlena Larid Lee of Prentiss, Mississippi. He was married to the love of his life Betty Jean Matthews for 53 years. Early in life Paw-Paw Joe was an entrepreneur and he also worked for Ceco Steel, Kenner Shipyard, Avondale Shipyard, and Hunts Shipyard as a Welder Lead Foreman. In 1976, the family moved to Marrero, LA where he resided until his passing. Mourning his departure and yet cherishing the knowledge that he is dwelling in the house of the Lord are his five children Sabrina Pollard, Louvina Lee, Ricky Lee (Carol), Arlena Lee-Mack, Andare` Lee-Carter and his god-son Ricky Hill. He is survived by his sisters Mary Gray and Velma Ross (John), 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews. He also leaves to mourn Reggie Williams, Earl Williams, and Alphonse Carter. Most of all he will be deeply missed by his cousins that he often traveled with Clevenland (Annie) Lee. Preceded him in death were his step-mother Lessie Lou Lee, Mother-in-law Bessie Early Matthews, four brothers Richard Lee, Jerry Lee, Joseph Lee and Woody Powell, three sisters Maddie Carol Lee, Wanda Lee, and Katherine Lee Blakey, a grandson Carl Simmons and son-in-law Johnny Carter, Jr. Henry is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends of the family. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 1020 Virgil St. Gretna, LA 70053. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am until 10:00 am, followed by Service at 10:00 am. Interment: Restlawn Cemetery, 3450 Hwy 90 Avondale, Louisiana.
