Helen Powell

On August 1, 2022, God said to Helen Louise Breaud Powell to end her visit on earth and come home to Him. Helen was a daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and a friend. Helen was born September 4, 1939 to the late Mary Jett Breaud and Howard Breaud, Sr. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1957. Then attended Southern University and later switched to cosmetology school to later become a cosmetologist. Helen truly loved God, her family, friends and her plants. Anyone she encountered, she would offer to pray with them and tell them about Jesus. In her retired years, she enjoyed spending time at PACE Greater New Orleans where she had many friends to enjoy games with as well as field trips, bongo playing, Tai Chi and many other activities. She leaves her three children to cherish loving memories; Thaddeus Griffin, Michelle Cherie Atoyebi and Dwight Wesley Powell. Eleven grandchildren; Thaddeus Kristopher Blankenship, Travis Uriah Blankenship, Dejuan Powell, Dwight Wesley James, Devin James Powell, Wesley Abass Atoyebi, Zoe Destiny Powell, Alaeah Balinda Griffin, Thaelyn Damille Griffin, and Ryan Fileds. Nine great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Helen was preceded in death by her siblings, Ruby Mae Brooks, Shirley Mae Sanders, Howard Breaud, Jr., a grandson Da’wesley Powell, and her nephew Tyrone Eric Sanders. Momma you will be greatly missed, you now have eternal life and unconditional love that this world could not give you…"see you later alligator, in a while, crocodile." Relatives, family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 1230 S. Carrolton Ave. New Orleans, LA 70118 on August 12, 2022 at 11:00 am.
