Helen Lavon Dorsey

Helen Lavon Paige Dorsey was born in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Mallie Smith Paige and Walter Duff Paige. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose presence brought warmth and strength to everyone who knew her. Helen completed her education through the ninth grade and carried with her a lifelong love of learning. She found joy in gardening, reading, and cooking. Her garden reflected her patience and care, her books showed her quiet strength and wisdom, and her kitchen was a place where love was shared through every meal she prepared. She also had a deep love for sports. You could always catch her watching a game, cheering passionately from her seat, fully invested in every play. Whether it was basketball, football, or any team she supported, she enjoyed the excitement and rarely missed an opportunity to tune in. Helen was a devoted woman of faith and served faithfully as the Church Mother at Heart 2 Heart Church in New Orleans under the leadership of Pastor Minor Rogers, Louisiana. She embraced her role with grace, wisdom, and compassion, offering guidance, prayer, and encouragement to many. Her presence in the church was a source of comfort and strength, and she truly embodied the love and spirit of a servant leader. She found great comfort in the 23rd Psalm, “The Lord is my shepherd,” and her faith guided her throughout her life, giving her peace and reassurance in all seasons. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Edward Dorsey III (Alzena), Cindy Dorsey, Suzette Dorsey, and Mary Knight (Aron). She was a proud grandmother to Dr. Nieka Harris, Melvin Millet, Tipheri Nora (Darvron), Keisha Dorsey, Ashara Grimes, and Jasmine Maldonado (Jefry). She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Kaydence Williams, Mathias Williams, Darvron Nora Jr., Tipheree Nora, and Sarai Hall. Helen was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Tiphery Grimes; her sisters, Jessie Martin, Dorothy Rogers, Flora Mae Warren, and Geraldine Matthews; and her brothers, Bill Paige, James A. Paige, and Walter Duff Paige. She leaves behind one sister, Jean Durham(North Carolina), along with a host of extended family and friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial services at Heart 2 Heart Family Worship Center on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 12 P.M.
