Harold Knight

Harold Lloyd Knight departed this life on March 16, 2013, at his home in New Orleans, LA. He was a devoted and beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather. Harold was born on September 18, 1932 to the late Roscoe and Ruth Knight in Hattiesburg, MS.. Harold was the eighth of eleven children. Harold confessed Christ at an early age and was a member of Sweet Pilgrim Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, MS. Harold was preceded in death by his parents-Roscoe and Ruth Knight; wife, Julia Knight; brothers, James Knight; Roscoe Knight; John L. Knight; sisters, Elizabeth Knight and Ruth Ann Portier. Harold graduated from Earl Travillion High School in Hattiesburg, MS. After finishing high school he immediately joined the U. S. Army. While serving in the army, he was a medic and he learned carpentry and cabinet making. He received the Korean Service Metal, the UN Service Metal, the National Defense Service Metal. He received an honorable discharge from the U. S. Army in 1957 at the rank of corporal. Harold lived in Washington, DC and worked at the VA Hospital. He later moved to New Orleans and met and married Julietta “Julia” Ford in 1967. He built cabinets and renovated many homes throughout New Orleans and resumed his fulltime employment at the VA Hospital of New Orleans where he retired. Harold leaves to cherish his memories, 1 daughter Belinda Williams Rodgers (Howard); 3 sons, Harry “Q. C.” Oatis (Ella) of Carson, Calf.; Lionel J. Williams of New Orleans and Ray A. Williams (Artie) of Forth Worth, TX; 3 sisters, Geraldine Blake and Doris Bowen both of Hattiesburg, MS; Mary F. Mayfield (John) of Washington, DC, 2 brothers, Willie G. Knight of Colorado Springs, Colo; and Billy E. Knight, Sr. (Lois) of Moss Point, MS. 5 grand children, and 5 great-grand children and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday March 22, 2013 at the Rhodes Funeral Chapel located at 3933 Washington Ave., New Orleans, LA.
