Gwendolyn Lloyd

Gwendolyn Sarks Lloyd departed this life on April 6, 2024, at the age of 83. She was a native of New Orleans Louisiana. She was born to the union of the late Henry Starks Sr. and Edwina Starks on December 16, 1940. She was educated in the New Orleans Public School System. Gwen had a passion for taking care of children; through her love of caregiving she formed Children of Jude Preschool. Gwen shared her life with her siblings two (2) sisters Edwina Starks and Connie Starks and four (4) four brothers Ronald Starks, Lionel Starks, Henry Starks, and Leo “Ricky” Starks. Gwen married William Lloyd Jr. To that union was born her 4 children, Wanda Milligan (Tommy), William “Butch” Lloyd (Gail), Pamela Lloyd Spriggs, Kevin Lloyd Sr. Gwendolyn loved and enjoyed the company of her family and friends. She loved celebrating birthdays with handwritten cards, outdoor cookouts, watching BET & Hallmark Channel. She accepted Christ at a very young age at St. Raymond Catholic Church which is now St. Raymond/St. Leo The Great. She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Ladies of Auxillary Court #78 for 35 years. Cooking for the Jazz Fest employees was one of her favorite hobbies. In 2013 Gwen was awarded by the Mayor of New Orleans for her service rendered to the sick and needy. Also, in 2013 she was honored for her support in standing with Americans Paralyzed Veterans. Gwen also gave generous gifts to UNCF (United Negro College Fund). She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Edwina Starks, Sister Edwina Starks, Brothers Leo “Ricky” Sarks, Ronald Starks and Daughter-in-law Vanessa Lloyd. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories her four (4) children Wanda, Butch, Pamela, and Kevin, one (1) daughter-in-law Gail Lloyd, one (1) son-in-law Tommy Milligan, six (6) grandchildren, William “Sweet Pea” Lloyd IV (Ariel), Darrell Spriggs (Ashley), Ronika Lloyd (Kevie), Brittney Martin (Dwight), Ashley Spriggs, Kevin Lloyd Jr, nine (9) Great Grandchildren, Ne’Vaeh, Greg, Amali, Denver, Kevie “Cha Chi”, Dru, Kioni, Mahogany, Parker. God Daughter Desiree Francis and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 9:00am at St. Leo/St. Raymond Catholic Church 2916 Paris Ave, NOLA 70119.
