Gwendolyn F. Brock

Gwendolyn F. Brock, affectionately known as "Gwen," of Tylertown, Mississippi, transitioned peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2025, at the age of 63, following a courageous journey through ongoing medical challenges. Born on December 3, 1961, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Gwen was the beloved daughter of the late Mayonia W. Lee and the late Curtis Fortenberry. She attended Francis T. Nicholls High School and later earned her General Education Development (GED) diploma. In 1978, Gwen married the love of her life, the late Jeffery J. Brock, Sr. Their union was blessed with three children—Jeffery Jell, Jr. (deceased), Nicole Tiffany, and Anthony Joseph (deceased). Gwen and Jeffery shared 26 years of marriage before his passing due to health complications. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Gwen’s world revolved around her family. She was a steadfast and nurturing presence, especially remembered as a spirited sports mom who never missed a game. Her grandchildren—Brock and Blake—were the light of her life. She cherished their hugs, laughter, and playful banter, much of which she gleefully encouraged. She also enjoyed bowling and road trips with her husband and best friends Ernest and Adrian Jarreau. Gwen was a proud breast cancer survivor, known for her strength, resilience, and faith. Her radiant personality—equal parts loving, witty, and prayerful—earned her the nickname “Mrs. Southernspice” among her network of friends. A lifelong member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in New Orleans, Gwen found joy in praise and worship and deeply cherished her church community, especially her spiritual bond with Pastor Cyril R. Grayson, Sr. Professionally, Gwen dedicated over 20 years to the healthcare field as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Her patients were drawn to her vibrant spirit, warmth, and no-nonsense charm. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, parents, sister Lula F. Gills (Charles), nephew Colby Gills, and niece Charlene Gills. Gwen is survived by her daughter, Nicole Brock Cousizan (Donald); her cherished grandchildren, Brock, Blake, Donald Jr., and Da’Nara Cousizan; her nephew, Curtis Gills; and a host of extended family and dear friends who will continue to celebrate her life and legacy. Relatives and friends of the family, along with Pastors, Officers, and members of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, are invited to attend the funeral service on Monday, May 19, at 10:00 AM at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 2407 Louisa St., New Orleans. Pastor Cyril R. Grayson, Sr. will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Crystal Springs A.M.E.
