Gloria Irma Washington Moore

Gloria passed away peacefully at her home on November 29, 2017, after a long triumphant battle with breast cancer; she was surrounded by her family and caregivers. In January, she would have celebrated her 69th birthday. She was the beloved firstborn daughter of the late James Roy Washington, Sr., and Irma Lenaris Washington. She was the devoted wife of Curtis Moore, Jr., for forty-four years, loving mother of Germaine and Johnathan Moore, mother-in-law of Va’Jeanne Cola Moore, and grandmother of Haley and Hayden Moore. She was the beloved sister to her six surviving siblings, James Roy Washington, Jr., Lionel (Michelle) Washington, Leonard (Dare) Washington, Carolyn Washington, John (Abigail) Washington, Sr., and Terry Washington. She is remembered with love by a host of nieces, and nephews, sister-in-laws, relatives, great nieces and nephews and lifelong friends. Gloria was born in New Orleans, LA on January 16, 1948, and was a native of Saint Bernard Parish. She attended high school at Saint Bernard Consolidated High School, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Dillard University and a Master’s degree from Loyola University, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Gloria was an educator for over thirty years, lending her God-given talent as a music teacher, specializing in piano instruction in Saint Bernard Parish, Werlein’s Music Store in New Orleans on Canal Street and ended her teaching career as a counselor in Saint Charles Parish. After retiring from the Louisiana Public school system, she embraced her entrepreneurship talents to assist her husband, Curtis, in opening a soul food restaurant, The Praline Connection. She worked as the Office Manager at the restaurant for almost 25 years. She wore many hats at the restaurant and was instrumental in making the business successful. Throughout her life, she was a devoted and dedicated Christian who attended church at Mount Olive in Saint Bernard Parish, First Free Mission Baptist Church in New Orleans, and White Dove Fellowship in Harvey. During her illness, she was strengthened by God’s words and leaned on her faith in Him. She was encouraged and supported by her devoted fellow church members, family and friends until she went home to Glory to claim ‘the biggest prize.’
