In Loving Memory of Gloria “Glo” Johnson With deep love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Gloria Jean Johnson, a kind, giving, and fiercely devoted woman who passed away peacefully in her home on July 22, 2025, at the age of 80. Gloria was born July 15th,1945 to her late mother Emma Lee Coleman in McComb, Mississippi and later moved to the city of New Orleans with her mother to begin her journey of life. The eldest of four sisters, Gloria was the foundation of her family, a woman everyone could run to in both joy and sorrow. She was the matriarch, the protector, and the glue to the family. After the passing of their mother, Gloria lovingly stepped into the role of overseer for her three younger sisters and helped raise their children as if they were her own. She was preceded in death by two of her dear sisters, whom she missed dearly every day, Catherine Sheets and Brenetta Coleman. Gloria was best known for her incredible cooking and her legendary cakes, rich with flavor and made from love. She worked hard to provide a safe, welcoming space for her loved ones and modeled what it meant to lead with love, loyalty, and a steady hand. Gloria shaped generations with her unwavering strength, compassion, and wisdom. Glo never drove a car or flew on a plane, but she walked boldly and confidently through life and loved a good ride when it was time. Whether walking across the city or getting dressed in all white to enjoy a Frankie Beverly concert, she embraced life on her own terms. She hated phones, especially cell phones, so if you needed her or wanted to talk you'd just have to catch her the old fashioned way and sometimes she wouldn't answer that house phone. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom she touched deeply. One of them, just five years old, affectionately called her “Snucka-nu,” a name as warm and unique as the love she gave. Gloria “Glo” Johnson was a solid woman; dependable, deeply loved, and never forgotten. She gave freely, lived fully, and left behind a legacy of strength, family, and faith. Gloria is survived by her sons, Michael Harper and Eric Harper; grandchildren, Avis Morton, Mikaili Harper, Eric Hudson, Dicoby Harper, Aris Johnson; great-grandchildren, Aris Morton and Nala Johnson; her sister Beverly Coleman, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry her memory forward with love. Gloria was preceded in death by her mother Emma Lee Coleman and her sisters Catherine Sheets and Brenetta Coleman. Relatives and friends of the family are welcomed to attend her Funeral Service at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave, on Friday, August 1, 2025 at 1:00 pm. The viewing begins at 12:00 pm.
