Gloria Stewart Jackson

Gloria Stewart Jackson was born March 21, 1931 to the late John Stewart Sr. and Vinnie Stewart. She always said she had excellent parents who worked hard to give her and her brother a good life. She took piano lessons at home and learned how to type at the YMCA. To her, family was a blessing from God, something sacred and worth cherishing every day. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, filled with laughter, prayer and a variety of sweet treats. Gloria married Louis Jackson which was one of the most beautiful parts of her life. Their love was rooted in faith, patience and deep devotion. She didn’t just love him in words, she showed it in every small act of care and every moment they shared at the Saints game. She got her education in Orleans Parish Schools and received her degree in Education from Southern University Baton Rouge. She believed in the power of education and became a school teacher in Orleans Parish until she retired at Danneel Elementary. She was a member of several social pleasure clubs like the 49ers. She loved travelling, playing bridge and bowling with them. She was a proud member of First Street Peck Wesley United Methodist Church. Since she was a little girl, she participated in Sunday school, the youth fellowship group then she served on the finance committee until she couldn’t serve anymore. On June 14, 2025, the Lord called Gloria home. It was a peaceful passing, but the ache in our hearts is deep. Still we find comfort in knowing she returned to the one who created her and sustained her every day of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents John Stewart Sr. and Vinnie Stewart; her brother John Stewart Jr.; her husband, Louis Jackson; her sister-in-laws, Leona Stewart and Ceola Grant. She leaves to cherish her nephew, Kevin Stewart and niece, Ladessa Smothers. She is also survived by the Grant family, the James family, the Brousseau family and a host of other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Service at First Street Peck Wesley United Methodist Church, 2309 Dryades St. New Orleans, LA 70113 on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 10:00am.
