Eunice Smith Dumas

Eunice “Cassiever” Smith Dumas of New Orleans, LA died on June 4, 2023. Affectionately known as “Cass” by family and friends, she was born in Crystal Spring, MS on July 25, 1938, to the union of the late Willie Eugene Smith and Minnie Lee Wilson Smith. She was the second youngest of ten children born to this great union. Eunice peacefully transitioned after a sudden illness. Eunice was baptized into Christ at Pilgram Rest Baptist Church in MS. Prior to Hurricane Katrina she was an active member of Branch Bell Baptist Church in New Orleans, LA. She remained strong in her faith throughout her life and knew that the Lord always held her closely. Eunice was a devoted wife and mother who dedicated herself to celebrating the accomplishments of her loved ones. She tirelessly worked to ensure her children's success, offering unwavering support and guidance through every challenge. She loved to cook, sew, joke, and laugh with family and friends and found solace and inspiration in a good Gospel, R&B, and Blues song throughout her life’s journey. She has entered into eternal rest to reunite with her beloved husband of 63 years, Easten Joseph Dumas, Jr. Cherishing her memory are her two children, Angelique Dumas Edwards (Damian) and Quentin Anthony Dumas, her granddaughters Analise I. Edwards, Drucilla M. Dumas, Lillie Smith, and grandson Willie Smith, Jr., her nephews Versie Young, Robert Young, Eddie Young, Charles Young, her brothers-in-laws Furtrull Dumas (Betty), William “Red” Dumas (Carliss), and her sister-in-law JoAnn Dumas. She leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cherished friends who will hold her memory close to their hearts. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Eugene Smith and Minnie Lee Wilson Smith, her loving son William “Billy” Smith, sisters Beatrice Carter, Ethel Mae Dixon, Elsie Blunt, Nettie Ford, and Bertha Smith, and brothers Issac Smith, Willie Smith, Jr., Pete Smith, and Percy Smith, nephew K.D. Wolf, brother-in-laws, Freddie Dumas, Lamar “Boo” Dumas, and Ellis Dumas, sister-in-laws, Marina Dumas Haynes, Marie Dumas Sims, Lorraine Hayes Dumas, Diane Dumas and Mary Dumas. Friends and family are invited to attend services at 10:00 am Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave, New Orleans LA 70125.
