Edward Curtis Sr.

After a courageous battle with cancer, Edward Curtis, Sr. passed away peacefully, at the age of 75, on the afternoon of Saturday, October 19, 2024, with the love of his family surrounding him. Edward was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on November 22, 1948, to the union of Junius and Lucille Johnson Curtis. Edward was a devoted husband and father as well as a beloved and respected brother, grandfather, neighbor, and friend. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School where he developed a trade in horticulture. A United States Army Seargent and sharpshooter, Edward was stationed at Fort Polk in Leesville, Louisiana, from 1969 until 1971. Upon completion of his military reserve duty, in 1975, he attained an Associate’s degree in civil engineering and construction from Delgado Community College. After graduation, Edward went on to work as a draftsman and civil engineer technician at Burk & Associates and later C & S Engineer Consultants until his retirement. Edward was a member of St. Raymond & St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. He leaves behind a legacy of character, faith, love, respect, support, and fond memories. He will be missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Blanche Baker Curtis; children, Yolanda Curtis Wilson (Reverend Richard E.), Edward Curtis, Jr. (Christalyn); siblings, Calvin Curtis, Sr., Gilbert Curtis, Jacqueline Brumfield, and Reverend Gary Curtis (Cheryln); grandchildren, Jeremy Etienne (Marshall), Evan Clark, Jiaya Wilson, Zion, Zaire, Azaria, and Zachary Curtis; as well as numerous extended family members and friends. Edward was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Delores, Albert, Richard and Ora Curtis, Joel Butler, and Geraldine Coleman. A Celebration of Edward’s Life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, with a Mass of Christian Burial for 10:00 a.m. at St. Raymond & St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2916 Paris Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70119. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Mount Olivet Cemetery, 4000 Norman Mayer, New Orleans, LA 70122. Services entrusted to Duplain W.
