Edward Curtis Jr

Edward Curtis, Jr. passed away on September 17, 2021 at 92 years old. A native New Orleanian and avid jazz lover, he will be remembered for his kindness, charm and unending love for his family and friends. He was born on May 20, 1929 in New Orleans to Aseline Curtis and Edward Curtis, Sr. who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Roy Curtis, Sr. He leaves behind to mourn his passing his loving and dedicated wife of 57 years, Madeline and two devoted daughters, Andrea McHenry (Randall) of Houston, Texas and Monique Carroll (Norbert). One of his greatest joys was helping to raise his loving niece, Rona Sanders (Guylan), who deeply mourns his passing. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren to carry out his legacy, Jarrad and Jordan Carroll and Evan McHenry. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, loving and devoted sisters-in-law, Loretta Hobbs of New Orleans, and Geneva Taylor (Dale), Marylee Johnson (Leonard), Anna Lou Hobbs, Lucille Oliver (Alfred) all of Houston, Texas. He is preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Marie Burke of Houston, Texas and Hazel Narcisse of Port Arthur, Texas. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, Horace Narcisse and John Narcisse (Elvira) of Port Arthur, Texas and Murphy Narcisse (Ethel) of Parks, Louisiana. He is survived by 7 half siblings from the remarriage of his father and he is also survived by a large host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. A lifelong educator, Edward obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology from his beloved alma mater, Xavier University in 1957 and a Masters Degree +30 in Guidance and Counseling from Southern University in Baton Rouge. He went on to work in the Jefferson Parish School system for over 35 years. He made a difference in the lives of numerous young people that he taught and counseled and was always willing to impart some sage wisdom or advice on those in need. After retiring from the Jefferson Parish School system, he also spent many hours and time working with his church community and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 2925. Due to his work in and around the community, he was recognized by the Archbishop of New Orleans in 2013 and was awarded the Order of St. Louis IX Medallion for his outstanding service and dedication to the City of New Orleans. His joy for life, effusive charm and unending wisdom will truly be missed. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the homegoing celebration at St. James Major Catholic Church, 3736 Gentilly Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70122 on Monday, September 27, 2021 at 10:00am.
