Edna Mae Collins Kennedy

Edna Mae Collins Kennedy, affectionately known by her family as Mud and Mudoo peacefully transitioned to be with our Savior on Saturday, January 6, 2024, surrounded by family, in New Orleans, LA at the age of 92. Edna Mae was devoted to her career in nursing, serving in various roles at Flint Goodrich Hospital, United Stated Public Health Services Hospital and later retiring from Charity Hospital after 26 years of service. She was a mentor and role model to many young nurses, who admired her professionalism, kindness, and compassion. She was called ‘the nurse on the block’ in the neighborhood. After retiring from Charity Hospital, she continued her nursing career, becoming a certified nursing assistant instructor at Jefferson Healthcare. She was always ready to assist others as needed. She loved her family dearly and was the Queen, Matriarch and Historian of the family. To her family she will always be remembered and missed for her love, strength and devotion in keeping the family together in love and unity. She was the beloved mother of Charles (Laura) Kennedy, Jr., Courtney (Ceola) Kennedy, James Harry (Lysa) Kennedy, Sr., and daughter Jacqueline Rose (Gary) Kennedy Shine. 15 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Relatives, friends, Pastors, Officers and members of the Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Nazareth Baptist Church, and surrounding churches along with Baha’i of New Orleans and St. John the Baptist Parishes, The Kennedy Financial Group, Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., The Townsmen Club, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., V.A. Hospital, Carrollton Hollygrove Sr. Center, and Palm-Air Civic Association are invited to join the celebration of life on Saturday, January 13, 2023 at 11am. Viewing will be held Friday, January 12, 2024 at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave., New Orleans LA 70125 from 4pm to 6pm. Celebration of Life will take place on January 13, 2024 at Little Zion MBC, 3231 Audubon St., New Orleans LA 70125. Visitation at 10am, Service begins at 11am.
