Dorothy "Dottie" Mae Fernandez Cambridge

Dorothy “Dottie” Mae Fernandez Cambridge peacefully entered into eternal rest on January 28, 2017. She was 87 years old. Dorothy was born in New Orleans to the late Lucille Murphy Montana and Henry Fernandez on December 22, 1929. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph, James, Elmore Fernandez and Freddie DeJean Sr. (Janet); Five sisters Eleanora Armstead (Frederick), Hilda Hubbard (Lester), Eunice Morgan (Alcide Sr.), Mildred Dudley (Harold) and Artemise Cordier (Edward); Surviving siblings are Carmen F. Langford, Oscar Fernandez, and Rosemary F. Claiborne. Beloved wife of the late Jacob Joseph Cambridge Sr.; Mother of the late Jacob J. Cambridge Jr. (Aloma) and Ronald L. Cambridge (Claire). She is survived by Carolyn C. Mackey (Noman Sr.), Sheryl C. Allen (Geil Sr.) and Adrian Cambridge Sr. (Lisa); Sister-in law to Louise Randall (Louis), the late Frank Joseph Sr. (Eva), Ellis Joseph Sr. (Rose) and Sylmus Cambridge Jr. (Beatrice). Lifelong devoted friend Ruby Clarvoe. Dorothy had ten grandchildren, Norman Mackey Jr. (Gina), Illona Cambridge, David Allen Jr. (Sheila), Nicole Monet (Clarence), Michael Allen (Bridgett), Andronica Edgerson (Michael), Shante DeGruy, Courtney Cambridge and the late Darlene and Adrian Cambridge Jr. Twelve great-grandchildren: Clayheiriya Monet, Nyrie Mackey, Megan Monet, Nygel Mackey, Brionne Cambridge, Roderick Smith Jr., Alexa Allen, Blake Allen, Alaina Allen, David Allen III, Aubrey Mackey and the late Keilei Dear. Two great-great grandchildren; Sari Darby and Suri Monet. Devoted God daughters; Brenda Foucher, Jackie Jones, Barbara Dominquez, Avis August and Janice Morgan. She was also survived by a large host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dorothy was retired from the Orleans Parish School Board. She loved cooking, sewing and helping others. She was a parishioner of Corpus Christi-Epiphany Catholic Church. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary post #125, Les Beau Mode Social and Pleasure Club and The Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court #60. Relatives and friends of the family, employees of Orleans Parish School Board, Sewerage and Water Board, New Orleans Police Department, Department of Public Works, also Reverend Geil R. Jacobs Sr. of St. Peter’s Baptist Church and members of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi-Epiphany Catholic Church, 2022 St. Bernard Ave., NOLA. on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 1:00pm.
