Curtis Theodore Bordenave Sr.

Curtis Theodore Bordenave, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 99 years of age. Beloved husband of the late Elsie Jean Blandin Bordenave. He is survived by his 8 children, Michele Bordenave Braden, Patrice Bordenave Haydel, Curtis (Mary), Jr., Gregory (Linda), Barry (Desiree), Michael (Julie), Gwendolyn and Timothy Bordenave. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchilden, 2 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Curtis was born in McDonoughville (Gretna), LA on February 7, 1918. He was the fifth child and fourth son of the late Gaston Bordenave, Sr. and the late Edna Carmouche Bordenave (who died when Curtis was only two years old). His siblings, Marguerite Bordenave Gusman, Odel Bordenave Olivier, Alvin, Wilfred, Lester and Gaston Bordenave all preceded him in death. At 99 years old, he was the last surviving member of his generation. He attended All Saints Elementary School in Algiers. He graduated from Xavier Preparatory High School in 1936, and attended Xavier University for two years. After Xavier University, he worked as an insurance agent. While working at the U. S. Postal Service as a letter carrier, he joined the U. S. Army in 1943, and served our nation with honor in World War II as a Sergeant from 1943 to 1945. After the war, he returned to work at the United States Postal Service (Gretna Post Office), and retired in 1976 as a Customer Service Manager after 30 years of service. He made many friends and was admired by many of the customers on his postal routes. He was secretary, treasurer, president, and leading contributor to the McDonoughville Benevolent Association for many years. He was also a member of the WEB’s social club for many years. Many of the WEB’s picnics were held on the grounds of Bordenave Street. He was an avid and excellent bridge and poker player, and enjoyed his many card games with his friends, hosting many card games at his home. He and Elsie enjoyed traveling throughout the United States (including many trips to Hawaii) and Canada; he especially enjoyed a cruise to Alaska. He loved to dance and enjoyed going to many dances and Mardi Gras Balls. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 12:00 noon at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 1100 Burmaster Street, Gretna, LA. Recitation of the Rosary at 10:45 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Algiers, LA. Arrangements by: D.W.
