Cora Lee Washington

Cora Lee Washington was born on May 30, 1931, in Napoleonville, LA to the late Paul Kennedy, Sr. and the late Mahaly Green Kennedy. She entered eternal rest at The Sanctuary at Passages Hospice in New Orleans, on May 20, 2023, at the age of 91. Cora graduated from Marrero/Westwego High School in 1950. After high school, she attended Coinson School of Practical Nursing in New Orleans and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She worked in the hospital industry and private sector as a LPN. She also attended Union Baptist Theological Seminary/College where she received her B.R.E. degree. She was an avid Christian at Third Emanuel Baptist Church in Bridge City, LA. There she wore numerous hats including Superintendent of Sunday School, Advisor of program committees, Leader of Prayer Band, and Director of the Junior Church. She was also very instrumental throughout her community. She was the Recording Secretary for WEBCO Senior Organization, VP/Secretary of Bridge City Community Prayer Band and a Volunteer for Bridge City Head Start. In October 1959, Cora Kennedy married Charles Washington. To that union was born their only child, Kenneth Lee Washington. Cora was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Washington, her son, Kenneth Washington, her parents Paul Kennedy, Sr. and Mahaly Green Kennedy, her siblings, Paul Jr., Hazel K. Jones, Rosie K. Robertson, Shirley, Jack, Florestine and Sterling Kennedy. Cora will truly be missed by her loving grandchildren: Malcolm Mimms (JaCennie) of New Orleans, LA and Jessica Sylvester of River Ridge, LA, her daughter in law Karen Washington, her spiritual daughter Cora Hawkless, four great grandchildren: Azalyee, Nayzer, Makai and Justice; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and devoted friends. Family, friends, pastors, members of Third Emanuel Baptist Church, and all neighboring churches, are invited to attend the funeral services on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 10am with a viewing at 9am. Services will be held at Third Emanuel Baptist Church, 187 Third Emanuel Street, Bridge City, LA. Interment will follow at Fred Dorsey Memorial Garden, Napoleonville, LA. Rev. Dr. Joseph C.
