Carrie Bell Richard

Carrie Bell Richard went to be with the Lord in the comfort of her home on January 14, 2019 at 8:10 p.m. Carrie was born on January 26, 1925 to L. W. Wilcox and Viola Williams at Grady Hospital in Atlanta Georgia. She grew up as the only child, and accepted the Lord as her Savior at a very early age. She was baptized in the Mississippi River by Pastor Mims. Carrie graduated from Grady High School and married the late Paul Charles Richard on August 20, 1943 in Jacksonville, Florida. To this union 8 children were born, Elsie Mae Jenkins, Leo Charles Richard, Clifford Richard, Sr. (Stella), Sherry Ann Wheeler (Thurman) Debra Richard Hines (Samuel), Doris Marie Duckett (Jeffery) Portia McFarlin (Kenny) and Kevin Richard. Carrie was a faithful member of Progressive Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Sterling Mealancon. Carrie was employed as a domestic worker for many years prior to enjoying retirement. Throughout the years, Carrie loved to travel and see new things. She traveled across the country with her senior travel group “The People of Aged”. Carrie was a long time resident of Marrero, Louisiana and she made her second home in Killeen, Texas in 2005 where she lived the remainder of her days. She enjoyed spending time with her new group of friends at the Bob Gilmore Senior Center, where she would go most days until her health began to decline. Carrie is proceeded in death by her parents L. W. Wilcox and Viola Williams, her husband, Paul Charles Richard, her aunt, Gladys Gibson, her cousin, Elvira Williams, two daughters, Elsie Mae Jenkins and Doris Marie Duckett, two sons; Leo Charles Richard and Clifford Richard, Sr. and three grandsons; Clifford Richard, Jr. (Laura), Shaun O’Keeffe Richard and Edward Charles McFarlin, Jr. (Aishah). Carrie is also preceded in death by three son-in-laws; Thurmand Lee Wheeler, Jeffery Mark Duckett, Sr. and Kenny Armstrong. Carrie leaves to celebrate her memory 4 children, Sherry Ann Wheeler, Debra Richard Hines, Portia McFarlin and Kevin Richard, a daughter-in-law, Stella Richard, a son-in-law, Samuel Hines. Twelve grandchildren; Dwight Walker, (Alexes) Doreen Carter (Franco), Holly Lightell, Natasha Varnado Huggins, Brian Richard, Lacey Ranson-Hudson (Paul), Cashana Richard, Brandon McDonald, Courtney McFarlin, Kelly Murphy (Matthew) Jeffery Duckett, Jr. and Christopher Cockerhan, a goddaughter, Kathey Richard Pace, 23 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Carrie would have been 94 years old today, and she has touched the lives of many people. She was truly loved and revered by all that had the distinct pleasure on knowing her. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers and members of Second Zion Baptist Church and Progressive Baptist Church are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Second Zion Baptist Church, 6520 Second Zion Blvd., Marrero, LA on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 10:00 AM.
