Carolyn Jean Minor

Carolyn was born to Bessie Tolliver Minor and the late Matthew Minor, the third out of nine children born of this union. She was raised in Winnsboro, Louisiana until the age 12. She was educated in Franklin Parish Training School in Winnsboro, Louisiana. She was a 1969 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. During her high school years, she was active in various scholastic organizations including the Yearbook Committee, Home Economics and the Pep Squad (now known as cheerleaders). At an early age, Carolyn accepted Christ and was baptized in New Orleans under the leadership of Reverend Freddie H. Dunn of New Hope Baptist Church. Carolyn had a successful tenure as a nurse at New Orleans Homes & Rehabilitation. In 2004, she moved from New Orleans to Harker Heights, TX to care for her grandchildren, Jabyri and Randi, while her daughter Jutane, and son-in-law Michael, both deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. She made this sacrifice while battling cancer and God healed her! Always willing to serve others, she was humble in all she did. Carolyn obtained her nursing license while in Texas and worked at Scott &White Memorial Hospital, Rosewood Nursing Home, and Darnell Army Medical Center on Fort Hood, Texas. Carolyn embodied a life of faith in God and love for the church. She was a ministry leader of the usher board, hospitality committee, and member of Daughters of Zion Dance Ministry. She always encouraged, supported and loved her family. She was blessed with four beautiful daughters who were the love of her life. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece and friend. During the last years of her life, Carolyn endured a lasting battle with diabetes. Although her journey was difficult at times, her trust and faith in God helped her to continue each day and allowed her to be a blessing to those whom she came in contact with. On Monday, May 25, 2015, God came and called her to Him. With her loving daughter at her side, He quietly transitioned her into her eternal rest. Upon her heavenly arrival, she was welcomed by her grandparents Lovelace and Layer Doyle-Tolliver, her father, Matthew Minor, her brothers, Charles and Larry Minor, and James Moore Sr., nephew, Turon Minor and great niece Tyrion. Left to celebrate her Homegoing and “Celebration of Life” are her beautiful daughters, Angela Minor, Jutane (Michael) Craigg of Harker Heights, TX, Jovanda (John) Jones of Killeen, TX, and Louise (TeeCee) Ambrose of Baton Rouge, LA, ; her mother, Bessie Tolliver-Minor; devoted friends Mr. Lloyd Bridgewater, Mr. Howard Alexander, Ms. Josephine Howard, and Mrs. Shirley Johnson; her sisters, Barbara Moore, Sophie Washington, Cheryl Minor, Carla Minor; her brothers, Billy Ray and Darryl Minor. Carolyn is also celebrated by her loving grandchildren, Irenique, Michael, Jabyri, Randi, J’Kiva, JaRon, Farrah, and Faith; great grandchildren, Raione, J’Kyri, J’Lani and numerous family members, devoted friends, and classmates who will cherish her lasting memory. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a funeral service at 9:00 AM on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Rhodes Chapel, 3933 Washington Ave. Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until service time.
