Carl Wayne Mason

Carl Wayne Mason, age 73 years old, transitioned to his new home on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Legacy Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born on July 10, 1951, at Charity Hospital in New Orleans to his parents, the late Thomas (Mike) Mason and Margie Mae Miller Mason. Carl was educated in the New Orleans Parish School System where he graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School. He was a saxophone player in the school’s band and played saxophone in a local band (The Blue Pearls). After graduating from high school, Carl served his country by enlisting in military service with the Louisiana Army National Guard services, receiving an honorable discharge at the end of his enlistment. He attended college at the University of New Orleans majoring in general studies. His career was diverse, beginning as a tow truck driver for the New Orleans Police Department. He later worked as a commercial truck driver for Schneider Paper Company before finding his most fulfilling role as a limousine driver for the Daughters of Charity Services of New Orleans. He formed a strong bond with the nuns and took great pride in serving them! Carl was baptized at an early age at Antioch Baptist Church in New Orleans under Reverend Moore. He lived his life to the fullest, always smiling, laughing, joking, and enjoying time with friends and family, especially with his nieces and nephews. Everyone who encountered him enjoyed his company because he would always find ways to lift your spirits and make you laugh! He was a passionate music enthusiast who enjoyed playing his saxophone and sharing his love for music with friends and family. Carl is survived by his brothers Derrick, R. Mason Sr. (Ricky), Brian K. Mason; sisters Lauren G. Moore, and Tammy Age-Millaud (Earl Millaud); a loving, devoted aunt, Alice Marie Brashears, (93 years old and his mother’s last surviving sister), nieces Samatha Mack (Johnnie), Sabrina Moore, Asia Age, nephews Derrick Mason Jr, Derrick Mason (Skip), Carlos Age, Jahmaal Mason, and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his late brother Donnie Chris Mason. Those whose lives Carl touched are invited to celebrate his home-going services with his family and friends at Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue, N.O., LA on Friday, March 28th, 2025. Viewing will take place at 8am, and service time begins at 9am with Pastor Kerry Brashears, Sr of Victory In The Word Ministry officiating.
