Bobby Strickland Sr.

Bobby Strickland Sr. was born August 9, 1946 to the union of Jimmie and Katherine Strickland. Bobby Sr. was the 4th child of 6 children raised in Burnett, MS. He was married to Mildred Westbrook Strickland who cared for him 12 years after he had a severe stroke and aneurysm. The doctors didn’t think he would make it through the night. Bobby and Mildred Strickland had 4 children together. Dianne (Glen) Cooley of Laurel, MS, Bobby Strickland Jr. of Slidell, LA, Zelmo (Sira) Strickland Sr. of Slidell, LA and Dupree (Shedee) Strickland of Slidell, LA . Bobby Sr. drove dump trucks and worked for himself in the tree service business, hauling pulpwood and paperwood along with his brothers, Jimmy “Green”, Clarence “Ray” and Dobby Strickland. As a younger man, Bobby Sr. was saved and accepted Jesus Christ into his life in the privacy of his home, in the presence of his family. He had a personal relationship with God. Bobby Strickland Sr. had 4 other children who were accepted, welcomed, embraced and loved by Mildred (Westbrook) Strickland and her children. Mildred thinks of them as her other children and will always be. How many people could say they would show the same unconditional love. Their names are Denise (Eric Sr.) Thompson Doss of Slidell, LA, Delwin DJ (Tasha) Jones of Slidell, LA and Katherine and Alegra of Mississippi. Bobby will always be loved and remembered by his big sister Lannie (Kurtis Jr.) Moody of Quitman, MS, his baby sister Fannie Mae (Gary) Tillison of Slidell, LA and his baby brother Dobby Strickland of Slidell, LA. His Uncle Tommy (Ruth) Strickland of Pachuta, MS and his sister-in-law Octavia (Jimmy Green) Strickland Jr. Also a host of granddaughters, grandsons, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bobby Strickland Sr. was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jimmie and Katherine Strickland Sr., two brothers, Jimmie Green Strickland Jr. and Clarence (Ray) Strickland Sr. and one sister-in-law, Blanch Strickland. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at East Baptist Church, 1092 County Rd. 290, Pachuta, MS 39347. Visitation will be from 12:00N until 1:00 PM. There will be a wake service at 7:00 PM on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 60183 Bryan Rd., Slidell, LA 70460.
