Anthony Batiste

Anthony Samuel Batiste, 72, died Wednesday Jan. 19, 2022 at Ochsner of Kenner, La. Anthony was born April 21, 1949 in New Orleans, La to the late Samuel and Myrtle Wharton Batiste. He was preceded in death by his sisters Lois F. Batiste and Gwendolyn B. Prosper. Anthony loved his grandkids and family with a passion. In 1967 Anthony graduated from Booker T. Washington high school. He enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps the same year and served in the Vietnam War until being honorably dischargedin 1971. Anthony married his first wife Anna Lee Batiste in 1972. He leaves to cherish his memories three children: Shelita, Shayne and Dierdra. Anthony worked at the U. S. Postal Services, Lawrence Livermore Laboratory Police Force and he was a driver for E and H Asphalt Company. He was a member of New Orleans Bible Fellowship Baptist Church. Weekly he enjoyed the word of Jesus Christ delivered by Rev. Leonard “Marvin” Parker. Other hobbies included bowling, fishing, baking, cooking, listening to gospel hymns and spending time with his grandchildren. Anthony is survived by his children Shelita (Leon) Ruffin, Shayne (Latoija) Batiste, Dierdra (Dectrick) Anderson: 9 grandchildren Sedric Withrow, Malia Batiste, Michon Batiste, Jacari Batiste, Ayden Batiste, Skye Batiste, Daizah Mathieu, Nigel Mathieu and Jayden Jubeark: 3 great grandchildren Kyliee Withrow, Kruz Withrow and Everlynn Mathieu-Madruga: 2 sisters Carolyn (Jack) B. Snaer of Manteca, California; Elaine B. Madina of Houston, Texas: 2 aunts Helen W. Howard and Dorothy Wharton: 2 Godchildren Michele Fay and Troy Sullivan. His memories will be cherished by a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family. Anthony will be especially remembered by his signature laugh and his unbeatable bowling skills. Visitation will be held Wednesday Feb 2 at 9 a.m. followed by funeral services starting at 10 a.m. at New Orleans Bible Fellowship Baptist Church 4430 Bundy Rd New Orleans, La 70127.
