Pearl Johnson Richard

Eula Pearl Johnson Richard affectionately known as “Pearl” was born on September 6, 1929 to the late Dave Johnson and Annette Walker of Napoleonville, Louisiana. She transitioned from this earthly life on November 27, 2022, at the age of 93 and is the eldest of four daughters. She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Pure Light Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served for over 60 years under the leadership of the late Rev. Arthur Monday and later Rev. Andre’ Sigler. Pearl was a member of the church sanctuary choir, nursing guild, usher board, deaconess board, and president of the Pastor’s aide. She began a career as a nursing assistant at Touro Infirmary and later became an administrative ward clerk, retiring after 32 years of service. To Pearl, family was the most important, she was married to Otis Richard Jr. for over 40 years and from that union they had ten beautiful daughters. She leaves to mourn her daughters Yolanda Richard, Faith (Lorenzo) Witherspoon, Eula Ellis, Mona Lisa (George) Walker, Paulette (Michael) Hammond, Linda Ann Holmes, Mary Ann (Cleophus) Hemphill of Missouri City, Texas, sisters-in-law Odelia Richard, Rose Marie Pilart, and Shirley Williams, 21 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great grandchildren, 4 God children, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Pearl Richard was preceded in death by her husband Otis Richard Jr., her parents Dave Johnson and Annette Walker, her daughters Runell Jackson, Linda Joy Richard, and Patricia Richard. Her sisters Helen Lemon, Mary Nell Price, and Mary Louise Williams, sister-in-law Alice Reff, sons-in-law Cornell “Billy” Jackson Sr. and Harry Ellis, and grandchildren Trunell “Trudy” Jackson and David Lee Russ Jr. Relatives and friends of the family, also employees of Dept. of Children and Family Services, VA Hospital and University Medical Center are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Pure Light Missionary Baptist Church located at 3944 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70125 on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 10:00 am.
