Gilbert Charles Jackson

Gilbert Charles Jackson, the only child born to the union of Gilbert Charles Jackson Sr, and Ethel Lou Davis Jackson in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was born on December 18, 1953, and was baptized at a young age. Gilbert attended Buchanan Elementary School and was a graduate of McKinley High School of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he was an active member of many school organizations. This led to his enrollment at Southern University Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1971. Gilbert completed his bachelor’s degree in 1976. He spent many years working and studying in Saudi Arabia. After returning to the states, Gilbert began his illustrious career with Camp Dresser & McKee, Inc., in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he excelled to the office of senior vice-president. His charisma, wealth of knowledge and his gift of gab opened numerous doors and laid the foundation for his consulting career at TATAN Consulting, LLC. Gilbert was the recipient of a number of awards and recognitions, including several organizations, Bridge To Success Board-Member, National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) Chair Corporate Advisory Council, and US Conference of Mayors Co- Chair. Gilbert’s commitment to Christian service was demonstrated by his impeccable willingness and enthusiastic participation. Gilbert joined Franklin Avenue Baptist Church on August 19, 2001, where he was a member of the Dynamic Male Chorus and taught the New Beginning/Fresh Start Sunday School Class. Gilbert loved to travel. It was an ongoing link for him, professionally and personally. An activity that took on a purpose with his daughters and granddaughter. He liked to spend time and resources on his precious daughters, Tonika, Taylor, Alexandria, and granddaughter Charli. He was determined to touch every part of their lives and to celebrate them as only a father and grandfather could. Gilbert went to his eternal home on Saturday July 15, 2023, at 11:25 P.M. at his home, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Gilbert was a loving father, grandfather, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents Gilbert Jackson Sr. and Ethel Jackson, grandparents Joe Davis, Sr., and Milder Ross Davis. He is survived by his three daughters Tonika Smart (Dennis) Prairieville, Louisiana, Taylor, New Orleans, Louisiana, and Alexandria; one adoring granddaughter Charli, two aunts Fannie B. Williams of Baton Rouge Louisiana, Mildred Ann Davis Ford of Austin, Texas, one uncle Cleveland Davis of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and a host of devoted cousins, very close friends and extended Church family. His celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023; visitation is at 10am followed by the service at 11am at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, 8282 I-10 Service Road, New Orleans, LA 70126.
