Ellen Leona Lawrence Batiste, referred to as “Chick or Booga” was born in New Orleans Louisiana on November 5, 1939 to the late Onelia Pichon Lawrence and Clarence Lawrence. Ellen was the loving wife of Willie Batiste and together they had 3 children, Madonna, Cindy (David) and Gerard (Vashita). She was the beloved grandmother to Carlis Sr, Anjel, Lacey, Gerard II, Chelsea, Ian, Kaitlyn, Alexandria and Jacob. She was a great grandmother to Carlis Jr., Austin, Julian and Elijah. She leaves to mourn two sisters Jeanette and Eleanora and is preceded in death by her brothers Burnal Sr. and Herman and a sister Betty. She also leaves her sister in laws Joyce, Mary Ann, Sedelia and Marie and brother in law Max. Ellen was loved by a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, friends and family. Ellen lived for her family and her children. She took pride In taking care of everything and everybody. There was never an occasion that she wasn’t there. Every childbirth, baptism, christening and confirmation. She was there for everything and a role model for all. Her goal was to see her 9 grandchildren graduate whether high school or college; while she was there for most, she will smile down on us for 3 graduations this May.Fond memories include summers with her grandkids and preparation of numerous food options at each sitting to ensure everyone was happy. Most will agree, she strived to make everyone welcome providing 5-star treatment to anyone who stopped by. She spent decades working for Stuffed shirts leading her team in quality control. The family joke was, “MawMaw knows everyone”! A quick trip to the store was never quick as she was a friend, a mentor and a role model to everyone.— Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a funeral mass at St. Geneveive Catholic Church 58203 LA-433 Slidell, Louisiana on Monday April 5, 2021 at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00am to 11:00 am. As mandated by the State of Louisiana due to the COVID-19 pandemic, attendance is limited. Everyone is required to adhere to all restrictions.
