Eleanor Signal Conley Eleanor Signal Conley (Nanny) entered eternal rest on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at the age of 92. She was affectionately known as Nanny because of her caring and gentle temperament to all who were blessed to be in her presence. Eleanor was born in New Orleans, LA on September 11, 1930, the first of five children of the late Solomon Signal and the late Irma Foster Signal. She was the loving sister of Evangelist Andrea S. Ratcliff, Reverend Andrew Toney, Jr., the late Reverend Gloria Gary, and late Minister Marva M. Sazon. She attended schools in Orleans Parish and received a bachelor’s degree in education from Southern University in 1956. After graduation, she served over 30 years in education, equipping students with critical skills needed to pursue their hopes and dreams. Her impact as an educator could be felt by generations of families in New Orleans. Eleanor’s retirement from Orleans Public Schools didn’t end her commitment to helping and educating others. Her vast knowledge of literary works was perfect for the role as a librarian where she served and guided many until 2005. Eleanor was truly committed to the work of the Lord. She was an active member of her church and used her musical talents as a pianist and organist at First Free Mission Missionary Baptist Church and Zion Travelers Missionary Baptist Church. Her commitment to serving the Lord continued with her work as an usher joyfully greeting members and visitors with the love of Christ. Staying close to the Lord was surely Eleanor’s mission, as she was a delightful Sunday School teacher, where she cheerfully shared the Lord's loving message to her students. As she continued her Christian journey, she answered the call to further her ministry work as an Evangelist. She evangelized well into her nineties. As a member of the Church Without Walls (Eldridge location), she truly enjoyed attending Sunday service to hear sound biblical doctrine and listen to melodious songs by the choir. Eleanor is survived by her sisters, Evangelist Andrea S. Ratcliff and Emmerrier Signal Bruce; and her brother Reverend Andrew Toney, Jr., (sister in law: Rev. Betty Toney). She also leaves to carry her legacy, the many she mothered and loved: a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, family members and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service at Greater King Solomon Missionary B.C., 3305 Audubon St., New Orleans, LA 70125 on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 10:00 am.
