Charles Toomer

Charles Toomer Jr. was born in New Orleans to the union of the late Charles Toomer Sr. of Franklinton, LA and Margaret "Maggie" Jackson Crawford Toomer of Slidell, LA. He was one of six children from their union with one living sister Dolores T. Smith, (Ernest Smith, deceased). Charles attended Booker T. Washington High school. He worked at the Marriott on Canal Street for about 40 plus years. He affectionately called many of his colleagues "My Boy". He was revered as the father of the "Yhott". He was respected and revered there. Even after retirement when he'd visit, they would swoon around him to have conversations with him. He was a member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member of the Gods Army of Men. He was a firm believer in God, until his final days he maintained a spirit of thankfulness in his heart. He had a passion for cooking and baking which lead to his own catering business, Charlie's Catering Service. He was well known and loved throughout the food and beverage industry. Prior to joining Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church he was a member of Law Street Baptist Church and frequent visitor of Franklin Ave Baptist Church. When unable to attend church, He enjoyed the Television ministry of Bishop Gilbert E. Patterson. He loved watching sports such as football, basketball and boxing. His faith and God's grace allowed him to see 85 years of life. If you knew him, he was one of the most easy-going men who didn't let much bother him. He traveled the world and did it in style, as sharp as they come. He was an impeccable dresser always dressed to the nines. From his first marriage to Mary McDonald Toomer this union was blessed with two children, to treasure his memory his devoted daughter, Vanessa Toomer Standberry, son, Dwayne A. Toomer. Four grandsons Amani J. Toomer Sr., Gerard R. Standberry, Charles Standberry Sr .(Dawn), Blake Toomer, Sr., (Mia), Dominique Sampson, Justin Staton, Christopher Staton, Vantrell Rudison. Great grandchildren, Amani J. Toomer Jr., Avery Toomer, Adonis Toomer, Sherlita Robinson, Elijah Standberry, Charla Standberry, Aurie Standberry, Charles Standberry Jr., Blake Jr. Toomer, Blain Toomer.; three Godchildren Elizabeth W. Luter, Damon Smothers and Stephanie Moore. From his second marriage to Ramie Willis Toomer he (became a bonus dad) to four children Keith Johnson, Dwayne Johnson, Frederick Johnson, Angela D. Sims (Ryan). Grandchildren Janniah Jarvis, Julie Cook (Joseph), Amber Johnson, Mark Johnson, Ryan Sims Jr., Jordyn Sims. Great grandchild Austin Johnson and a host of brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend his Funeral Service at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 2805 General Taylor Street, New Orleans, LA 70115 on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 10:00 am with Reverend Moses S.
