Calvin Joseph “CJ” Brown, Jr On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, our heavenly Father dispatched his angels to bring Calvin Joseph “CJ” Brown, Jr. to his heavenly home. Born on June 25, 1982, in New Orleans to Calvin Joseph and Wanda Rosborough Brown, he was 41 years old, the only son of his parents. He was baptized at an early age at Corpus Christi Catholic church. He was educated in the New Orleans public schools, attending Gentilly Terrace Elementary, Thurgood Marshall Middle School and was a graduate of McDonogh 35 class of 2000. CJ continued his education at Louisiana Tech University, where he was a Studio and Graphic Art major. After two years he continued his education at Delgado Community College. CJ moved to Los Angeles, California in December 2004 where he worked various jobs while pursuing his passion as a Reggae DJ. He performed at several venues throughout the Los Angeles area including Carbon, Bash-Mint, and Las Palmas to name a few. He pursued that career until the birth of his daughter Dakota Tulane in 2013, when he became a stay-at-home dad. One year later he moved to Lebanon, PA and became the first black United States Postal Service letter carrier. In 2015, he returned to New Orleans and continued as a letter carrier at the Central Station location. In 2018 CJ was blessed with the birth of his son Emory Wrigley. His deep passion for music and total appreciation for art allowed him to share his God given gifts and talents. CJ’s infectious smile, and positive energy touched the hearts of all who had the pleasure of meeting him, leaving an undeniable mark. Calvin was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Juan and Alberta Rosborough and paternal grandparents Nathaniel Brown, Sr and Lorraine Darensbourg Brown. CJ leaves to cherish his memories, his children Dakota Tulane and Emory Wrigley Brown, his parents Calvin Joseph and Wanda Rosborough Brown, three siblings, Chauntrell Shelby, Krystle Brown, and Lesley Brown: nephews Kingston Brown and Mase Collins, nieces Asata and Afeni Brown. His uncles, Nathaniel (Joan) Brown, Jr., Melvin (Joycelyn) Brown, Byron and Kevin Brown and aunt Felonise (Cedric) Otkins, 21 first cousins, his loving companion Aiyisha Smothers and a host of cousins, family and friends. Relatives, friends, and employees of the United States Postal Service, Tulane Medical Center, Internal Revenue Service, McDonogh 35 Class of 2000, Community Works, and Cetechs/Department of Interior, and Tulane University are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70125.
