Andre Gibson

Andre Gibson, who was affectionately called “Mookie” by family and childhood friends, passed away at age 58, on Sunday, April 23, 2023, in Slidell, La. Andre was born on February 8, 1965, in New Orleans Louisiana, to Roosevelt Macklin and Jerrydean Gibson Brown. On May 26, 2006, he married Laura Blunt. Andre received his formal education in the Orleans Parish Public School system where he proudly earned his General Education Diploma (GED). He was a lifeguard for the New Orleans Recreational Department (NORD) during his teen years. As a young adult, he worked in the New Orleans food service industry. Andre was baptized at Life Center Cathedral by Bishop J. Douglas Wiley. Andre went on to receive his CDL from Coastal Truck Driving School and was employed in the oil and gas industry. He worked for Environmental Equipment Services and Exxon/Mobil for over 15 years. He later worked for Prime Inc., as a long-haul truck driver until his illness forced him to retire. Andre leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Laura Ann Gibson; four beautiful children, Andre Marshall, Andralina (Nina) Marshall, Anara Gibson, and Andrea Gibson; three lovely step-children, Benjamin J. Pauline, Jr., Mia S. Pauline, and Cameron M. Pauline, Sr., six rambunctious, bonus grandchildren, Patrick Lamar, Autumn Albert, Cameron Pauline, Jr., Julian Pauline, Dior Moses, Benjamin Pauline, III. and one eagerly anticipated grandchild. Andre was the ninth child, born into a large family of 13 children. His caring brothers are the late Joseph Brown(Eva), the late Keith Gibson (Brina), Merlin Brown (the late Nancy),(Shrease), the late Albert Brown(Sharnell), Eugene Brown (Debra), and Clifton Brown. His adoring sisters are the late Patrice Norwood, (the late Earl Norwood), Cornelia Brown, Paulette Thomas (the late Don Thomas), Shawyander Brown, Therese Caceres (Angel), and the late Tiffany Brown. His sisters-in-law include Lucrecia Blunt (Lorena), Leonora Byrd (Aaron), and Trina Garner (Delmar), and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Andre was a kind and generous man, always offering to lend a hand. His face would just light up when he was “giving a lil’ change to the kids.” He loved cracking jokes and once he was on a roll, you couldn’t rein him back in. He kept everyone laughing. He had the same passion for the competitive game Dominos. In his words,” Only experienced players can sit at this table.” He loved fishing with his brothers and best friends. One of his favorite pastimes was watching karate movies with his oldest brother and seeing new releases with his grandson. He loved traveling, going out to eat, and going to concerts. Much of his day was spent texting or chatting on the phone with his children (trying to get into their business) and spoiling his grandchildren. He will forever be remembered by his family and friends for his love of people and dedication to life. Relatives and friends of the family, and employees of Environmental Equipment, Exxon/Mobile Refinery, Prime Inc., and Ochsner Rehabilitation Hospital. All pastor’s officers and members of Restoration Centre of League City, TX are invited to attend funeral services at D. W. Rhodes Funeral Chapel,3933 Washington Avenue on Saturday, May 6th, 2023 at 1 pm. Visitation will begin at 12 pm. Interment:Private.
